Get an international perspective on damage prevention at the 2023 CGA Conference & Expo

CGA recently announced the educational sessions and tracks for the 2023 CGA Conference & Expo, taking place April 17-21 at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Fla. Among the expansive lineup of educational sessions designed to facilitate cross-industry discussion and collaboration are several international sessions delivering perspectives on damage prevention efforts from around the world. These sessions are focused on some of the most pertinent damage prevention topics, including 811 notification, mapping data and utility and pipeline marking.

The international educational sessions attendees can look forward to at this year’s Conference include:

Locating Abandoned Infrastructure in Quebec
Wednesday, April 19, 9:30 a.m.–10:15 a.m.
Presenters will discuss a new process established in Quebec that allows the digging community to notify their nearest 811 center whenever unknown and unregistered underground infrastructure is discovered and does not appear in the original locate request.

International Panel: Role of Damage Prevention and Utility Safety in the UK and Australia
Wednesday, April 19, 11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
Panelists will outline the roles of utility safety and digging practices internationally and compare these efforts to practices in North America. They will share the importance of asset owner mapping data and the impact it has had on the damage prevention process, as well as the challenges and successes of education efforts around the dangers of accidental contact with overhead and underground power lines.

Building Best-in-Class ROW Signage Programs
Thursday, April 20, 11:15 a.m.–Noon
Enbridge will highlight the importance of utility and pipeline markers and detail their own experiences working alongside vendors to build a program that improves the marker system for all Canadian and U.S. stakeholders involved in the damage prevention process.
