Damage Prevention Opportunities using Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing
CGA's Technology Committee will be holding a series of "Technology Spotlight" webinars to highlight technology that is advancing damage prevention. The Technology Committee is focused on driving the industry to develop and utilize innovative technology. In addition to publishing the Annual Technology Report, the committee will hold periodic webinars featuring a technology that has the potential to impact damage prevention.
The November 8th webinar focused on distributed fiber optic sensing and in particular distributed acoustic sensing technology. This technology has the potential for live detection of right-of-way activity. Representatives from the Fiber Optic Sensing Association (FOSA) briefly described the technology and provided, through review of several FOSA member company utility use cases, how this technology is already being used in the utility space.
