A Message from the CGA President regarding the 2020 Conference

March 18, 2020:  Clarification Regarding Termination of the CGA/Infrastructure Resources Relationship

First, I hope this finds you and your families well during these very challenging times. I know many of you are dealing with life-altering impacts resulting from the COVID-19 outbreak. As we all try to grapple with the short and long-term impacts the COVID-19 has had on your lives, both professionally and personally, I want to be sure we are providing you with the information you need.

We understand the safety and wellbeing of your family is your priority. I also want to ensure we are providing our members with the information they need given the current situation and the cancellation of the 2020 CGA Excavation Safety Conference & Expo in Palm Springs. We have received many questions about the cancellation of the conference, particularly regarding refunds, and I want to be sure we are as clear and transparent about this issue.

Unfortunately, the cancellation of the 2020 CGA Excavation Safety Conference & Expo has made clarifying the separation between CGA and Infrastructure Resources very challenging. I would like to provide you with as much clarification as possible regarding the parties’ relationship especially considering the issue of conference refunds.

Attendees and exhibitors were notified on March 12, 2020 that Infrastructure Resources will not issue refunds for your registrations and/or your exhibitor fees. I know this is frustrating for you. CGA is researching a variety of options to help minimize the impact of this policy on you. This includes increased networking events with exhibitor opportunities at our summer and/or fall meetings with no charge, and a discount to the 2021 CGA Conference. I encourage you to reach out directly to me to discuss this.

I want to be sure that you understand that as of March 26, 2020, CGA’s agreement with Infrastructure Resources will terminate and CGA will no longer be working with Infrastructure Resources to produce any of its events or conferences.

While Infrastructure Resources has offered to apply only 2020 attendee registration fees to the 2021 conference fees, it is important that you understand your registration funds (and IR’s processing fee) are being applied to Infrastructure Resources’ Global Excavation Safety Conference, not being applied to the 2021 CGA Conference.

We want two things to be very clear for our members:

  1. The CGA Conference & Expo is at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld® on March 2-5, 2021.
  2. Infrastructure Resources’ conference is in Tampa on March 23-25, 2021, and is NOT associated with, supported, or endorsed by CGA in any way.

CGA’s decision to terminate our relationship with Infrastructure Resources was based on CGA’s fiduciary duty to our members to ensure the funds that have been entrusted to CGA are producing the best possible return on investment and that future conferences support CGA’s mission.

I want to assure you that CGA is and will continue to be committed to our membership and our mission. I encourage you to reach out to me directly with any additional questions you may have as we look ahead to our 2021 CGA Conference.
